IMPLEMENTATION OF DEPARTMENTAL SCHEME![]()
INDUSTIRES SECTOR:
As per the latest reports of SSI census there are 391 numbers units are functioning, which has generated 2120 numbers of employment. The main objects of the programs are to create & generate more & more employment opportunity by promoting industrial units [large / small Scale] by utilizing locally available raw-materials recourses.
The economic scenario of Karimganj district is predominantly cultivator; there has been some development in industries also. One medium scale industry has been set up recently in the district Viz. “BARAK VALLEY CEMENT LTD” at Jumbasti, Badarpurghat where directly around 100 persons are locally employed apart from existing Tea Industry.
Besides Tea industry / Tiny sectors industrial units, the Sital-Pati and cane & Bamboo products plays vital role in the economic development of this district. However, a few HPC ancillary / SSI units have been set up in Badarpurghat.Tea industry has been dominating the industrial landscape of the district since long and provides employment to a big magnitude. Tea industries falls under Small scale Sectors
ROLE OF DI & CC KARIMGANJ:
The DICC Karimganj is play a vital role for self-employment through PMRY, KVIC margin Money, Financial assistant through Commercial Banks & RRB, NSIC schemes etc. More than 2300 numbers of beneficiaries have been benefited through above-mentioned schemes. Further DICC plays also active role in imparting motivational trainings, entrepreneurship development training, provides incentives under NEIP & NIP to the existing SSI units.
It is also worth to mentioned that the aegis of Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Government of India, DI & CC have implemented 7 numbers of “COMMUNITY INFORMATION CENTRE” covering all existing block areas of Karimganj district for e-governance.
PROSPECTIVE INDUSTRIES: A few industrial sectors have wide scope for development as:
BAMBOO WORKS:
Bamboo products have wide marketing potentiality because of its value than steel or wooden items. Many decorative craft items, household goods made of bamboos are used widely through out the country. The raw materials are locally available and most of the artisan took this activity because low capitalized projects.
Most importantly all the artisans are traditional and primitive process are still continued. The existing methods need to be up-graded by inputting modern technology in organized manner with backward and forward linkages at high degree of craftsmanship through training. The cluster areas need to have “COMMON FACILITY CENTRE”, which may be operated through local NGO.
SITALPATI UNITS :
As there is little scope for large & medium sector industries in this district, a special emphasis has to be given on tiny, cottage & small-scale industry while exploring the possibilities for development of industries. The district is renown for unique product viz. SITALPATI used as mattresses based on locally produced raw material “MURTA”.The artisans are having traditional skill and concentrated mostly in south Karimganj. The Sital Pati could not be commercialized and real artisans are generally deprived of actual benefits because of its primitive style of products and process at the present days where as the product are heavily demandable in the market. The skills of present artisan need to be trained / motivated & technologically up-graded with forward & backward marketing linkages by setting up of sale outlet in the different export potential locations of the country.
ICE FACTORY:
As there is a proposed fishery project at Sone beel. The possibility of ice factory should not be ignored. The products need to be packed / stored and than exported to other parts of the district every day hence a couple of ice factory are found to feasible at potential location.
INDUSTRIAL INFRASTRUCTURE:
A few commercial & Industrial estates are very much essential at the potential commercial location for new generation entrepreneurs / unemployed youth having technical skill. Due to inadequate infrastructure and shortage of accommodations, the industrial / economic development as well as commercial activities remained far behind national level.
Considering the above conditions, at least 10 numbers of commercial sheds may be constructed at potential location of each Anchalik Panchayat level in a phase manner to accommodate unemployed youth having technical skill.
In order to generate more employment in rural areas at least one RIGC [RURAL INDUSTRIAL GROWTH CENTRE] may be set up. The basic aim of the RIGC is to develop quality of entrepreneurship in rural areas and synchronize the efforts of different NGOs for development & create industrial atmosphere in the district.
In absence of direct marketing agencies the surplus agricultural products / cash crops of the district so produced are damaged because of inadequate storage facilities available in rural areas and unscientific preservation systems.
NON-CONVENTIONAL ENERGY SOURCES:
Considering the various factors and energy crisis through out state as a whole & Karimganj district in particular needs power generations through non-conventional energy resources. A major thrust may be given to develop electrification of inaccessible villages of the district by promoting projects on “NON-CONVENTIONAL ENERGY” with the help of GOVT. grants / financial assistances.
The Government of India is providing financial assistances for electrification of villages through renewable sources. Ministry of non-conventional energy provides financial assistances @ 90% of the total schematic cost subjected to maximum of Rs. 10 lakhs and rest of margin amount of Rs. 3 lakhs has to be born by promoter if electrified by Solar PV home lightening system. Besides producing power for electrification, other productive SSI unit may be set up by local entrepreneurs to generate employment.
